One of my favorite things to do right now is take to either Soundcloud or Bandcamp and sift through the pages and pages of music trying to find something good, and usually it happens at 3 in the morning. Last night I found this project called Palantris, which is beautiful music made by Will Tomlin of London.
“Sails”, his most recent album, was released on March 28 of this year. The tracks go back and forth between ambient drones and intimate piano. Both are cool if you’re into that kind of thing, which I am. The production has an awesome raw feeling, especially the track “Room for Living Pt. 2”. It incorporates field recordings with a lo-fi organ and the calmingly familiar crackle and pop of vintage tape, but the track progresses in a really interesting way and eventually new sounds replace the old.
The album is also available on cassette, which is almost an instant purchase for me these days. (At the time of writing this there is only one left.) It’s hard for me to say no to a cassette release of an album I fell in love with almost immediately. If you have about a half hour to sit and listen to music I highly suggest pouring yourself some tea or your beverage of choice and listening to this album. Quite easy to get lost in.
